traditional collars, the Gentle Leader® Easy Walk™ Harness
never causes coughing, gagging, or choking because the chest strap
rests low across the breastbone, not on the delicate tracheal area.
Why

Traditional
harnesses can actually encourage dogs to pull harder because of
the “opposition reflex.” That’s the reflex that makes
sled dogs do what they do. The Gentle Leader® Easy Walk™
Harness redirects the pressure through the front leash attachment.
And, our patent pending martingale closure tightens slightly across
the chest and shoulder blades when your dog attempts to pull forward.

Harness is available in 3 new “Tweener” sizes – petite/small,
small/medium, and medium/large. Designed to fit dogs whose girth
and chest proportions do not fit within our 5 traditional sizes,
these “Tweener” sizes bridge the gap. Dogs with especially
broad or narrow chests may get a more accurate fit with Tweeners.
The P/S size accommodates dogs with girth measurements of 14”-18” (*We do not carry this size),
the S/M allows girth adjustments of 19”-25”, and the M/L
is designed for dogs with 25”-35” girths.
Using the Easy WalkT Harness:
The Gentle Leader® Easy WalkT Harness is designed to gently discourage your dog from pulling while walking on a leash. And, it's easy to use, requiring virtually no acclimation period or specialized training.
If your dog forges ahead of you, gently pull the leash to the side to turn the dog towards you. As he stops pulling, be sure to release the tension on the leash. Use praise and reward your dog with treats and/or petting.
To slow your dog when he is pulling ahead, apply gentle pressure to the leash, pulling gently toward one side of the dog. Release the pressure on the leash when the dog is walking nicely next to you.
Like all collars, leashes, and harnesses, the Gentle Leader® Easy WalkT Harness is a tool designed to help you train your dog to walk politely. We recommend finding a qualified trainer who can help you work with your dog in a positive way.
We do not recommend using the Gentle Leader® Easy WalkT Harness with a retractable leash. With a retractable leash, the dog is "rewarded" with additional leash when he pulls ahead. We want the dog to learn to NOT pull ahead. In addition, a retractable leash will always apply a slight constant pressure, teaching your dog it is okay to continue pulling.

About the Easy Walk Harness
Premier Pet Product’s Easy Walk™ Harness is a dog training tool that encourages polite walking behavior by gently discouraging the dog from pulling on the leash. Recommended by trainers and veterinarians, the Easy Walk Harness offers many benefits over traditional harnesses and collars.
The Opposition Reflex and Traditional Harnesses
Similar to horses, dogs have an opposition reflex that causes them to instinctively move toward the point of the body where pressure is applied. On a traditional dog harness, the leash attachment is located at the top of the shoulders. When you pull the leash, pressure is applied to the front of the dog’s chest, causing the dog to move forward. Therefore, leash attachments on the back of a harness actually encourage a dog to pull harder!
The Easy Walk Method
Unlike traditional harnesses, the leash attachment on the Easy Walk Harness is located on the unique martingale loop in the chest portion of the harness. When you pull the leash, the harness tightens slightly across the dog’s chest and shoulders. This action steers the dog to the side, redirecting his attention to you and discouraging pulling.
In addition, the Easy Walk Harness enables you to use the dog’s natural opposition reflex to direct the dog while walking. This opposition reflex is well-documented in horses. Riders can use their legs to turn a horse by applying pressure to the horse’s side. Using a similar concept, you can use the Easy Walk Harness to send turning cues to the dog by applying pressure to the appropriate side when walking.
Problems with Constricting Collars
“Choke chains,” prong collars or other constricting devices are often used to discourage a dog from pulling on the leash. When these collars constrict or pinch the throat, they actually work against the dog’s natural opposition reflex. In addition, these collars can cause pain or damage to delicate throat tissue. Because the Easy Walk Harness does not constrict the throat, it controls the dog without causing choking, coughing or gagging. This makes the Easy Walk Harness a safer choice for the dog with a sensitive throat or spinal problem such as intervertebral disc disease.
Other Benefits
Not only does the Easy Walk Harness make it easier to direct and control the dog while walking, it is also helpful for teaching basic obedience commands such as sit, stay and down.
